AI search visibility is the degree to which a brand appears accurately and prominently when AI assistants answer relevant buyer questions. It measures the generated answer itself: whether the brand is present, how it is positioned among alternatives, how it is described, and which sources support the response.
AI answers are not search result pages
A search ranking records the position of a URL. An AI assistant synthesizes an answer that may name only a few options. A page can rank well while its brand remains absent from that answer, and a brand can be mentioned without its own site being cited.
The signals worth measuring
- Mention frequency across a stable set of customer-intent prompts
- Position among recommended brands when a mention occurs
- Positive, neutral, or negative framing
- Share of voice against defined competitors
- Cited domains and complete answer evidence
Measurement needs repetition
Generated answers vary. A defensible program runs the same prompt set across relevant assistants, keeps the answer evidence, and compares results over time. The objective is to find durable patterns and specific gaps a team can address.
